Sylvie Blangy is a consultant in ecotourism and sustainable tourism based in the South of France, with 11 years experience in this field. She has worked extensively throughout the world and mainly in Latin America, Africa and Europe (Eastern Europe included) for various contractors, particularly for the European Union, the French Ministry of Environment and the French Co-operation Agency. For 4 years, she was the director of the tourism department of a French consulting company specialised in environment, protected areas and conservation of biodiversity, SECA, Société d’Eco-Amènagement. She worked previously for the French Ministry of Agriculture on the development of an experimental rural tourism programme in France. She has covered a whole range of expertise ranging from ecocertification, product development, market studies, national policies, park master plan, regional strategies, environmental impact assessment, code of ethics, environmental guidelines, project evaluation for donors…etc. She has published several articles in French and English speaking magazines and scientific journals. She has worked for UNEP and WTO. With UNEP, she was involved in the preparation of the International Year of Ecotourism and the World Ecotourism Summit in Quebec. She wrote the UNEP manual for IYE. She completed the WTO ecotourism market study in France. Sylvie has also developed for 2002 the manual on ecotourism initiatives and good practice in France for the French Ministry of Tourism. Sylvie sits on the Advisory Board of The Ecotourism Society and is an active member of TIES in Europe. She is involved in the co-management group of IUCN. Sylvie is completing a thesis on “Ecotourism, indigenous communities, land management and conservation of biodiversity” and writing a book on ecotourism in French. |
